Fate Lingod sat on the ground staring up at the full moon high in the sky. He was wearing his standard Providence Military uniform. In his hands he was playing with the goggles that was left behind by his old best friend just thinking about the past. He really didn't want to be in this small village, but orders were orders and he had to follow them just like everyone else. He had been in this same spot for three nights straight and nothing ever happened.
The village was just rebuilt from the last attack that occur and the Providence Military had reason to believe that it would be under attack again.
"Commander Fate! We have scouted the area, but found nothing. What would you like us to do now sir?"
"I told you to just call me Fate," Fate smiled, "You all get some sleep. I'll keep watch and alert you all if anything happens." Fate gave his signature two finger salute gesture to the Providenc soldier.
"Yes Command-- I mean Fate." The soldier saluted and walked off, leaving Fate all to himself.
It was funny. Fate was a half-demon yet no one knew it. He hid it so well. He was pretty sure if anyone found out he would be kicked out of the military and sure people would fear him. "Another wasted night," Fate signed, "I guess it can't be helped."

Cleo silently stood just 10 yards from a man she had not yet met. She knew he was a military leader and was protecting the village but knew nothing else...yet. She watchd with little curiosity as he told his men to sleep. He has a heart... the thought hung in the air, not really part of her but with her nonetheless. As she noticed what was around his neck she stiffled laughter. It appeared humorous to her. Why would anyone, young or old, choose to wear goggles around his or her neck? Her amusment left as she heard him speak a second time.
"Wasted? Tell me, sir, how can one waste a night?" She hadn't really intended to speak aloud until morning when she thanked them for watching over the small community, the goddess wasn't, but she did. It surprised her that she could simply think the words and they were aloud. The girl refused to move. She wasn't quite ready to give away her position, though she had just spoken aloud. How could anyone waste a night? Night was well...night. One can easily waste a day, but a night? Just being night made nighttime worth while.

Angelo knight stood at the top of the gaurd tower flag over looking the ruined city, He crouched down staring at the man he had been following for some time. He Wondered How could a man of no apparent strength, be in such High command? Clutching the amulet to his chest he grinned. "This is going to be a fun night." He said as He dived off the tower into the Liquid Dark Night.

Fate simply fell back to ground placing his hand behind his head for support against the cold hard ground. Usually he too would be sleep, but figured his comrads need the rest more since they were working all day. He nearly jumped out of his very skin when he heard someone speak to him.
"Wasted? Tell me, sir, how can one waste a night?"
"Please just call me Fate," He said, "Sir just makes me seem old." Well, Fate was fully awake now. He knew by the voice that it had to be a young lady, but his eyes search the surrounding area and found nothing. Was she hiding? "I truly don't know how someone can waste a night," Fate answered, "It's something a old friend of mines would say time and tim again. I guess I picked it up as a habit."
Okay. Fate felt like he was going insane. He knew someone was there, but still since he couldn't set his purple eyes on the figure to know that she was really there it felt as if he was talking to himself. He had a strange feeling that the night was only beginning.

The young nymph smiled to herself. "Very well. Fate." She began to move closer to him so that he could see her. "Habits...yes, I see." She took a few more steps so that she was clearly in his sight and tried to make eye contact with him. If she did, she would be able to 'see' the pain coming from him. Cleo gently tucked a lock of hair behind her ear that had been blowing in the breeze. The night was comfortable, not to hot not to cold; it was just right. "No, I don't believe it is possible. A night is night. It can be dark and dreary and bright and calm. There is nothing to fear at any time, night just seems to be calmer than the chaotic order of day, do you agree?"

Fate finally set his eyes on the girl, giving her a quick up and down. She was beautiful. It was nice to have some company because it did get lonely just sitting around thinking about the past. "It's hard to disagree with a women, but during the night is when all the beast come out," Fate responded, "So I must say that the night and I don't get along to well. How could something so beautiful hold so many terrors?"
He turned and smiled at her wondering what she was doing out at this time. It wasn't his place to tell her to go home so he wouldn't say anything about that. "I apologize but I don't think I got your name," Fate said, "What's someone as beautiful as you doing out here?"

"Yes, I must agree," the girl replied. "Malice's elite unit does come out at dusk." She visibly seethed as she spat the name. [b]"I refuse to serve a false Goddess though she gave me this..." Cleo placed her hand out to the side palm facing down and shut her eyes. Within seconds a rose bush had grown all the way to just below her hand and bloomed. At his question, she smiled. "Beauty is naught but what is seen. Beauty can never fully be a good thing." Her words were almost prophetic though she was no prophet. Turning, she tried for eye contact again. "My name? Cleothephra. My friends call me Cleo, or at least they would if I had any friends."

It always made Fate feel good when people smiled. The boy finally decided to make eye contact with the girl. "I don't mean to be rude, but you have beautiful eyes also."
"You don't have any friends?" Fate signed.

Finally! they had made eye contact. Her's began to search his soul finding the places of the most pain and aleviating it. She smiled at this comment about her eyes, which she rolled just seconds later. Upon realizing that she had just smoothed out the bumpy and rough edges of his soul without asking, she appologize. "Oh, I didn't mean to do that. I was going to ask first, but...I guess I got caught up in it...and how could that've possibly been rude?"

"I don't know how it could be rude to tell you the truth," He shrugged, "I guess it was the way I was raised..." Fate tilted his head to the side. Yeah, he was confused and didn't have the slightest clue what the girl was talking about.
"You didn't mean to do what?" Fate was puzzled, "You read my mind or something?" Fate wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. There was somethings that just flew right above his head. He smiled as he waited for her to explain herself.

Cleo smiled. "No, I didn't read your mind. I merely smoothed the rough places in your soul. The areas where you may have killed someone or a loved one passed away. I aleviated your pain and brought happiness." She blushed. The girl hadn't meant to, but she did. Now, had she read his mind? No. Did she know what she had smoothed over? Not really, but she could guess. He was part of the military, so that would account for some of his trauma. He was old enough for his parents to no longer be around so that would account for more. Really, it was just a guess on what she had done. Except the part about giving happiness and taking sadness and hatred.

So she didn't read him mind. She just brought him happiness. Well, Fate was all about recieving happiness so he wasn't going to get angry over something like that. Besides, Fate never really got angry anyway no matter what people may do.
"Thank you," Fate smiled, "I apprecitate your kindness." He tugged at the goggles around his neck. He did this when he was nervous for some reason. "I wish that there was something I could give you in return."
